Accepting the norms

I’m currently reading Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss and this caught my eye:

The biggest mistake you can make is to accept the norms of your time

Neil Strauss on the Tools of Titans book

Thinking about this, all the milestones I’m proud of were in response to a norm I didn’t accept:

  • I don’t hold a software engineer degree, but I’m working as a Software Engineer
  • I don’t have 10 years of experience, but I’m working remotely
  • I started Creative Africa (Now dead, RIP) because I hated the low pay given to African freelancers

If you break the norms, you’re on your way to something great.
